Crochet A Cup Mat For Someone Special

January 6, 2016

Pick your favorite coloured thread and then the only necessary items are a coaster, crochet hook and scissors. You can add a little extra embellishment using a fine needle if you wish.

Using the main colour yarn, make a magic ring and secure with a stitch.

Chain 2 and work 11 double crochet stitches into a ring.

Close the ring by pulling on the tail, and join the round by slip stitching in the top chain of the starting stitch. Your stitch count will be 12.

Chain 3, and work another circuit in the same stitch, then work 2dc in each stitch all the way around. Join with a slip stitch in the top of the starting ch3. Your stitch count is now 24.

You can basically follow the size of you cup to decide wheteher to continue or stop. It already looks pretty good and can be considered finished at this stage.

However if you are fussy, or want to add more decoration, you can add a lace border and change the colour of the bands.

You have extra time, then  you can apply some colour to add extra pretty decoration, such as this chain-stitch.

So if this interests you, why not make a little gift for someone in your family this winter and bring some warmth into a special person's life.
